HOST FAMILY PROGRAM
Immerse yourself in the Mexican lifestyle and language when you share a home with a local
family. Affectionate and friendly, those families that participate in the Host Family program,
welcome you with open arms. Discover the warmth and charm of their family... experience
Mexican customs and authentic cuisine... practice your language skills on a daily basis.
If you're looking for an opportunity to experience the Mexican culture around-the-clock, and
become fluent in Spanish, you should strongly consider living with a host family. You'll not
only become a part of their family unit, but you'll get integrated into the local community –
The fee for living with a host family includes a shared room with another international student,
three meals a day, housekeeping, laundry facilities and utilities.
WHAT YOUR ACCOMODATIONS ARE LIKE
Your meals are provided and prepared by your host family on Mondays through Saturdays.
On Sundays, you're on your own. However, you may prepare your own meals cooking whatever
you'd like from what is available in the family's kitchen.
When you stay with a host family, you get a clean, comfortable room with a bed, closet space,
and a study area. Sheets are provided. Please bring your own towels and toiletries. You'll also
receive your own house key so that you may come and go without disturbing your host family.
Most of the host family residences are located either within walking distance to the Campus
Monterrey or along the bus route so it's only a short ride to campus (30-minute ride at most).
Tecnológico de Monterrey carefully screens host families and takes your preferences into
consideration when choosing a family for you. Before you arrive in Monterrey, you'll be told
who your family will be so that you can contact them prior to your arrival. Your stay begins on
the arrival dates (found in the Academic Calendar section) through the day after you complete
your final exams.
If you wish to extend your stay with your host family, you need both their approval and that of
the International Programs Office (extra costs are involved).
Arrive on the official arrival day (see the calendar on page 22 of this brochure) and a
representative will meet you at the airport and bring you to the campus. At that point, your
host family will pick you up and bring you to your new home. It is very important that you
inform our International Programs Office of your travel arrangements. Please do not contact
the host family directly to arrange for your transportation.
